PML designed these valve covers with the traditional styling of rounded corners and the classic CHEVROLET script. The script is cast into the cover and raised. On powder coated parts, the powder coat is shaved off the top of the script. PML valve covers are sand cast aluminum and strong. They will not flex when bolts are tightened.
These covers feature a mid-height design that will clear most roller rockers. Please check dimensions in above link to verify clearance for your particular configuration and see our web page on fitting PML valve covers on small block Chevy engines for examples.
These PML valve covers are standard flange mount covers for 1959 to 1986 small block Chevy engines (265, 283, 327, 350, 400). The valve covers mount on to the cylinder heads with four bolts on the perimeter, directly across from each other. Vehicles with new GM crate engines use these valve covers to provide an old school, classic look and feel.
We have one set of these on SPECIAL.
Optional PCV, Breather, and Oil Fill Holes
Please read this PDF document on oil fill, breather and PCV set-up (click to view) for pictures and details.
PML small block valve covers are made without holes for PCV, oil fill or breather. The two most common engine configurations are (1) no holes required or (2) two holes required, one hole for PCV and one hole for a breather. Note that either of those holes can also be used for oil fill. We can also machine one hole in one cover (please call for this option).
For engines that require PCV and breather holes on the valve cover, PML designed the casting to be thicker on the intake manifold side below the C where an internal baffle is located. This area can machined with a hole. This way, the top of the valve cover is left alone for a clean, classy appearance.
Image shows valve covers with holes machined, PCV grommet, push-in breather, and mounting bolts.
To order the configuration with PCV and breather holes, choose the option in the shopping cart. The option for PCV and breather holes includes one hole in each cover, a PCV grommet, a push-in breather, and an oil fill tube.
Please call to order if your engine configuration requires one hole or to discuss your requirements.
PML machines the valve covers to order in our shop. We use four or five different tools on a CNC machine to create a neat, leak-free hole for PCV, breather or oil fill. Spot facing provides a smooth sealing surface for grommets.
To learn more, we have two videos. Please watch this step-by-step video of PML machining a PCV hole. We also have a step-by-step video of PML machining a hole for our push-in breather.
These PML valve covers work with many engine configurations and roller rocker systems. If you have something other than stock, see our web page on fitting PML valve covers on small block Chevy engines.
PML Valve Covers Compared to Stock
These images show a PML valve cover compared to the stock cover. The outside dimensions are shown. The distance to the gasket surface maybe different. See the link below the "Buy Now" button for more information on dimensions.
This is a stock cover from a Chevrolet small block 283 engine. The stock cover is thin stamped steel and is (or was) orange.
